India has banned 22 social media websites in India held Kashmir (IHK) on Wednesday; the authorities told our sources. Government says that this one-month ban is needed for retaining public safety as social media was highly "misused by anti-national and anti-social elements". Videos being shown on various social media websites in recent days depicting alleged abuse of Kashmiris by Indian forces have fueled unrest in Kashmir. Facebook, Whats app, twitter and many other  social connectivity websites are gagged in an effort to calm the tensions in the disputed region. Moreover the public order claims that, "It's being felt that continued misuse of social networking sites and instant messaging services is likely to be detrimental to the interests of peace and tranquility in the state."
